Description

Court proceedings. Fiscal vs. Hendrick Jansen from Bremen, gunner's mate of the ship Herring; assault on the deputy fiscal on board the vessel off Staten Island; the ship ordered under the guns of the fort and the prisoner subject to torture; "but he persisted in the lie"; thereupon the ship's crew came ashore and attempted to rescue the prisoner, but failing, the prisoner pleaded guilty and further proceedings were stayed. [1639];Order. To commissaries Van Elsland, Petersen and Van Curler, to have their accounts ready within a month under penalty of 100 guilders. [1639]
