Description

Judgment. Referring to Holland the case of Jan de Fries vs. Gysbert de Leuw, for slander, in having asserted that a negro wench in plaintiff's possession was the property of the company, having been previously the slave of Juan Antonio, a Portuguese, at Marignan, who had been arrested for treason, and was therefore incapable of selling the woman, as the plaintiff pretends. [1646];Court proceedings. Jan Damen vs. John Dolling, action for payment of a balance of a bill of exchange; ordered that defendant shall produce proof from John Evans and Onckeway. Symon Joosten vs. Augustyn Herman, action for money paid defendant on account of Pater Vaer; defendant says that Pater Vaer was not indebted to him, which he offers to prove; proof ordered. John Heyn (? Haines) and Evert Cornelissen vs. John Dolling, as security for Mr. Whiting, for recovery of an overcharge on beavers; judgment for plaintiff, with costs. [1646]
